The Saxophone

As a young saxophonist w/ only the guidance of an internet forum, I was instructed that if I wanted to be Great I needed only to Listen to The Greats. Teen-aged, obsessed with Greatness, and lazy enough to stop research after finding two names, I listened to Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, and not having knowledges of history or vocabulary built a naive dichotomy between the two: ascribing virtuosity and expression respectively. I soon realized virtuosity required a level of exertion I wasn't mature enough to delve into, and turned my attention towards building a youthful over-expressivness. Later, I studied concert music at CSULB, and have maintained a sound conception I think of as staunchly classical while expanding what I'm interested in getting out of the horns. The Saxophone admits me to explore cyborings of the body, virtuosity and amateurism, acoustics, and performance.
